Froth Analyzer.

Flotation monitoring · cell-mounted · edge inference  ·  also known as FrothSense

The Froth Analyzer reads the flotation cell the way an experienced operator does — by watching the surface. A dense optical-flow field captures the velocity and direction of the froth across the entire region of interest, while a bubble-segmentation network resolves bubble structure on the same frame.

What it measures

  • Surface velocity — X / Y components, speed, and heading in mm/s after calibration
  • Bubble size distribution — D50, D90, and the full bubble PSD with up to 8 boundaries
  • Texture standard deviation — froth richness, the visual signal of pulp density and depth
  • Health gates — texture quality and valid-vector ratio alert when the cell is too calm to control
  • 250 ms cycle — fast enough to feed dynamic flotation control

How it changes the circuit

Bubble structure and surface velocity shift minutes before recovery does. With those signals as live process variables, the advanced process controller responds to the upset that's coming, instead of the assay that reports it after the fact. Grade tightens, recovery stabilises.

Deployment

Farneback dense optical flow with adaptive CLAHE preprocessing. Configurable ROI per cell, coordinate flip, and pixel-to-mm calibration for world-space velocity reporting. Edge inference, no per-cell licence.
